Beyond the keyboard / A little more human

Hello again. I’m Denis.

Software engineering takes up a sizeable part of my life. But it’s not what I want every conversation to be about. There’s the gym, football, travelling, good food, and the simple pleasure of discovering something new.

01 / FOOTBALL

Arsenal is a long-term relationship.

There are brilliant days, and days when I wonder why I let a football match determine my mood. But that’s part of being invested in something that matters to you.

There’s always another match, another debate and another reason to believe. North London is red.

02 / PLACES

I’d rather go somewhere.

I love travelling. A sunny coast and a sandy beach are always tempting, but so is getting lost in an unfamiliar city, discovering its architecture or finding a little restaurant down a side street. The best trips tend to include a bit of everything.

I’ve been back to Tenerife more than once, which tells you something. But I also love discovering new places and the small details that make each one different.

03 / THE TABLE

The food matters.

For me, a great trip isn’t only about what you see. It’s also what you eat, where you sit and who you’re sharing the experience with. A street-side breakfast can be as memorable as a carefully planned dinner. Sometimes a great meal beats another attraction on the itinerary.

04 / TRAINING

One more rep.

I spend a lot of time in the gym. Lifting weights, working on getting stronger and keeping a routine are things I genuinely enjoy. It gets me away from the keyboard and gives me something completely different to focus on.

05 / CURIOSITY

I like following an idea.

I’m curious about how things work, not just software. I can get drawn into a conversation, an idea for a game or an interesting problem and end up spending more time on it than I expected.

That’s probably a better introduction than a list of programming languages. If you want the engineering story, it’s all here too, but there’s more to me than the work.
